Meet Paul

After a lifetime working and living in Nanaimo and Ladysmith, Paul Manly represented his hometowns in Ottawa from 2019 to 2021, and worked hard for our communities. From pushing for decisive climate action to finding smart solutions for small business owners, as our member of parliament, Paul worked tirelessly for all of us.

 

Paul was born in Port Alice and has lived in Nanaimo for almost twenty years. He has travelled widely and lived in other parts of Canada but Nanaimo and Ladysmith have always been his home base. His grandfather had a farm just outside of Nanaimo and Paul spent his formative years growing up in Ladysmith.

 

Raised in a political family, Paul developed a keen interest in social and economic justice, environmental stewardship and politics, and these issues have formed who he is now. As a researcher, filmmaker and communications specialist, Paul has committed his skills and knowledge to the creation of media that educates, informs and adds to public dialogue on issues of importance.

 

Paul has proven experience in governance. Prior to his election in 2019, he served 11 years as director of  Mid Island Co-op and as an advisor to several other bodies. For three years he was a director on the national board of the Council of Canadians representing the B.C. Yukon region. He was a director on the board of the development company for Pacific Gardens Cohousing Community, a multi-million dollar housing project.

 

From 2016 to 2019 Paul worked for Nanaimo Foodshare, a not-for-profit society, where he coordinated employment skills training programs for youth with multiple barriers to employment and people with diverse abilities.

 

Paul is married and has two daughters.
