Happy holiday weekend! Yesterday brought good news from the House of Commons - many more people will be eligible for the Canada Emergency Response Benefit, and low-wage essential workers will receive additional income support.
MPs from all parties have been working together to identify the gaps in the safety net, and we're seeing action, we're seeing the government closing many of those gaps. There's still work to be done, but this non-partisan effort and progress is encouraging.
The section of the legislation I'm referring to is: "implement measures without delay to address gaps in the Canada Emergency Response Benefit, or other programs, existing or proposed, to address the needs of seasonal workers, those who have exhausted their EI benefits, students, owner/operators, those who continue to receive a modest income from part-time work, royalties and honoraria and that, in addition, the government work to ensure essential workers who receive low wages will receive additional income support during this time of crisis"
Please, stay healthy, stay safe, stay home. Have a wonderful holiday weekend everyone.
