In the October general election Canadians did not get what they voted for, thanks to our first-past-the-post electoral system. The results have sparked a renewed interest in electoral reform at the federal level, and that's a good thing.
The first petition I've sponsored in the 43rd parliament is a call for a National Citizens Assembly on Electoral Reform. I support this call to action and I hope you will too.
"We, the undersigned, citizens and residents of Canada, call upon the Government of Canada to establish a National Citizens' Assembly on Electoral Reform; require the Citizens' Assembly to complete its work within 12 months; and adopt any recommended changes to our electoral system before the next federal election."
Petition e-2315 is open for signatures until March 9, 2020. I'll be presenting this petition in the House of Commons soon, and when I do I'll share the video here on my website.
